POTD- PROJECT OF THE DAY: What Did You Make In Your Shop Today?

been adding lights to my Bosch router.. my son made me a light ring but it didn't last and I didn't like it, as it was mounted to the motor and faced down and reflected off the base plate into my eyes. so the new one is a maglight led conversion that really sucked. So I finally used the bulb to light the router. From the side inside the casting boss for the handle. Made a new base as well.

Also replaced the bearings of one of my old routers that I have dedicated for a 1/8 roundover bit. it's a 1960s Craftsman router w/ a 1/4 collet. it's neat because they had a light in that router way back then.

Next started making a sled for the router.. I need to route a large area to inset two tiles in the side board table stop.. these will be for hot dishes to sit on and not destroy the tops finish. Well everything was going well until I put the stiffener on. I accidently flipped the plexi and wound up installing the first stiffener on the wrong side, GRRR.

Sometimes I go to my little shop area to just sit and contemplate a project.

Thought of the day is "what centers the various shafts"?
Bottom gear cluster uses a nut on each side that rides on the inter bearing race, adjust each side as needed.
Upper shaft uses a nut on one side and a snap ring riding against the outside of the opposite bearing. Adjust as needed.
Bottom shaft relies on drive gear and bushing to locate.

Something new to lean everyday.
Failed to take into account wear to the OAL by the drive gear. Appears Its .012 short.
Will spin another up. Practice makes perfect right :)

Bored the wallowed out tie rod end hole in the steering knuckle for the MF tractor. Next turned a stepped bushing for a press fit into the knuckle, then drilled, and bored a tapper in the bushing to fit the tie rod end. Will get it pressed in tomorrow, and that will be the end of the work on the tractor until we get back from vacation. Have some work to do on the drive line of the Explorer, and take off the snow tires and mount up some all seasons for the trip to the gulf coast. The dog is getting excited, she's never seen the ocean. ;) Mike

I stole an idea!

I got tired of spilling acetone all over. This is stainless with a silicone washer. I can swap it out for a regular cap for long term storage.

Edit: I guess if I was a real badass I would have made a threaded cap for the end....

I keep a regular cap to cap the can. The spout is only for pouring, not storing. I'd be worried about it leaking out.
