Does anyone have a part number for the filter circuit board, or know where I can buy one? The wiring diagram just states "filter".

New to the forum. I bought this lathe about 9 yrs ago. The electrical problem I'm having is when you hit the on switch the readout will read 6300 rpm for a second or so, then go to zero. The motor won't run. If you turn the spindle with the switch on it will register the rpm.
I swapped in a new speed control board and adjustable resistor with no luck. At this point I thought I would just start replacing things.

Also looking for a replacement brass "block" for the cross slide. Quite a bit of play in the block.
Thanks in advance for any help

Hi Harold- Is this a dc brushless motor or a dc brushed one? If it's the latter you can check the motor separately with another source of power like a cordless drill battery or, even a little 9v battery should turn it slowly. Does the filter board connect in between the speed control board and the motor?
You might want to check it for bad solder joints if there is a large coil on the board. They sometimes vibrate loose and open the circuit.
I doubt the readout has anything to do with the motor failure. You might have a look at this website: www.olduhfguy.com

ps I believe the filter is only for reducing radio frequency emissions and some motor hum. The controller should function ok without it, if you wanted to remove/bypass it for testing

This might be a silly question but have you tried calling PM? From all accounts they have a great customer service department and might be able to help you trouble shoot and/or sell you parts.

It's a 110 volt brushed dc motor. Is there a source for replacement motors. There's no other info on the motor other than 110v.

If appears the motor is dying. When I first tested it with a 12 volt power source nothing happened. I spun the motor by hand and applied 12 volts it started working again. I re-installed it and it's only turning about 1/2 speed.

I talked to tech support yesterday. No suggestion as to what to trouble shoot, said he'd get back to me.

Sounds like the brushes might be worn out- after 9 years I wouldn't be surprized. You might try searching for a similar set online, cheaper than replacing the whole motor, even if you have to buy a slightly larger size of brush and sand them to fit
I would take them out and have a look, sometimes they have a wear limit line like the wear bands on tires

I emailed PM about a replacement motor and leadscrew block.
The problem is there is no information on the motor as far as h.p. and rpm. May make it hard to figure out what brushes to buy.
Will get the motor dimensions and look on ebay.

You'll have to go by the original brush dimensions, since you have no info on the motor (and the original mfg is probably not around anymore)
There are/were a few companies that sell many sizes of brushes. Try AliExpress too, and maybe Harbor Freight or Grizzly. Pete at www.olduhfguy.com might have a line on brush suppliers for these import motors
Worst case, new motor time. The current (as of 2019) 1127VF comes with a 1 HP ac motor and inverter, according to their website

I got an email from Matt at PM saying he can get a motor. Will send a photo to confirm. Will also look for a set of brushes.
From some of the old posts around 2013, I got this was a 1.5 h.p. motor. Since I connected a 12v battery and got the motor to run in both directions by switching the leads, wouldn't this make a d.c. motor?

What a joy to have a responsive vendor. I have a Bolton with the opposite experience.

If you send me some closeup pictures of the brushes with dimensions, I may be able to help you. I have lots of brush sets but no packages.
