PM1030V calibration question

Due to a couple of ridiculous operator flubs, I had to dismantle the carriage on my PM1030V. The hand dial is driven by the rack you see just below the ways. The rack and the interfacing gear are pretty sloppy. Backlash is terrible. Also, the shaft that has the rack interface gear can be bent pretty easily ( (result of my flubs). So, I stick with the DRO, which works just fine.
