what tool would a person use to change the hole diameter on a ceramic grinding stone / grinding rock ? I have a 1/2" hole and need it to be 3/4" . the mfg of the stone / rock calls it a "rock" is that another term ?

thanks in advance.......

I would be wary altering any grinding stone/rock that operates at high rpm, if that is the case here. They can be weakened, fracture, and become shrapnel.

Best regards,

Jeff

I'd be inclined to just get the correct wheel or possibly make an arbor adapter that sizes down to what you need.

Always be very mindful of the maximum RPM rating on the wheel and never, ever exceed it. It can kill you.

My rationale for not modifying a wheel is that you may introduce a fracture and the wheel could come flying apart. A fellow member here had a mishap with a wheel (one that was not modified) not too long ago and he got lucky and only lost the tip of his finger.

Of course it can be done, but should it? A while back this was discussed on this forum, and there were certainly differences of opinion, on both the method and the safety/wisdom of it. I believe the overall consensus was to just get the proper wheel.

thanks for the opinions. where would a fella look for a 5 or 6 inch x 1/4" wide with a 3/4" hole, 80 grit or finer ?

I "binged " it and except for the 7-800$ ones, I have been unable to locate. . . . I would like $20-30..:) if possible.

MSC has a very good selection of grinding wheels. I also believe Richard King knows someone who specializes in abrasives. Hopefully he'll chime-in.

May have to buy a wheel with a 1-1/4" hole and bush it down to 3/4". That's what I would do.
