On a threaded spindle, what are the critical features to capture?

How do you part a 5" back plate? A 2-1/2" parting blade stick out? Hard for me to imagine.

Remember, it's no longer a solid piece, since you've bored and threaded from both sides.

Good point. About 1-1/2" stick out, which is a little better. At least it's cast iron, which cuts well. Moot point for me at the moment, since the piece I bought is only slightly oversized. Cast iron is surprisingly expensive these days.
