Nonsensical pricing

All the more reason to price gouge, because you deserve all the profit, not anyone else. Hurray for me, everyone else can pound salt- this is the mentality of the unscrupulous.

Also remember there are many prices for the same item depending on the location.
Prices on the west coast tend to be higher then the manufacturing belt raising up as you continue traveling east.
I have no problem with anyone asking whatever they want for whatever they are selling, if I am interested I will offer what I wish to pay.
From there depends on how comfortable people are with negotiating.
Do not make it personal or take it personally ,
Many other countries negotiate over every sale, it's a really cool thing to watch and no buddy is butt hurt.

I don't care for the extremely shallow depth of field on that guy's photos.
If the idea is to make them look like miniatures, he's succeeded.

@Choiliefan That burke is a 100$ value at best. perhaps another 50$ for the cutters. I bought mine in perfect paint, on power, with cutters and arbors, for 300$ - in showroom condition. The guy is dreaming.

I can see that Burke fetching around $500 (perhaps as much as $800 to an ignorant buyer) in tool-impoverished areas, during good financial times. But that's the absolute max. I might pay $300 for it today, because I've always wanted a little horizontal and it does have the vise.

To answer a few of the other posts - the owner, of course, has the right to put whatever price on it, and I'd never dispute that. But, if he wants to sell, he'll have to come done many, many, times. It's easier to start high, but starting that high will just discourage lower, yet earnest, offers. I'm not about to waste my time throwing a $300 offer at something the owner is asking $7500 for. Yes, I know that's a preposition...

Bottom line is that the original post (rightly) pointed out that there are some people who think anything old ("old" being defined as more than 25 years out of production) must be sorely valuable. While I appreciate this sentiment in evaluating myself, it's hardly market reality...

You know.....it might have just been an honest mistake, a finger slip, you know a moment of distraction. Boom an extra zero!
