<chuckle> But it says right there that it's "vintage...". It'll probably take him a while to drop the price more than 100x to get to anything approaching reasonable.

A wise young man once told me that when you're negotiating a price for someone's possession and they get a tear in their eye as they talk about its virtues, it's time to walk away.

"No low-ballers, I know what I got"

That's on the same level as this one...

He thinks it's rare because it has '723' cast into the swivel... it's probably actually a $100 or $150 vise... maybe...

When selling rare and extremely valuable artifacts from gone by times, it is very important to believe that the value of what you sell is exponentially greater than what you have. Lead becomes gold, steel becomes platinum, babbit becomes silver. You project your value onto the very piece that you have for sale, rather than accepting reality.
I say,
Go get them, mister price gouger,
You deserve it .

You can always drop your price but it is nearly impossible to raise your price

The "I don't want to sell it price" is every where on auction sites and Amazon/Ticketmaster dynamic pricing!

Think of it this way, If you Absolutely need or want an item you will be willing to negotiate and probably spend more than the boat loads of people just looking to get something cheap so they can resell at a profit.
