Need Help: Re-Inking Machinist's Scales

Thanks for the video link. They make it look easy.
They have a lot of practice; I imagine that they have a fair amount of rework when they start doing that job - fortunately they just need to drop the rules in a tank of solvent, brush clean, dry and try again.

I use those paint sticks on my sight markings. Some times it works great sometimes not. I dont have it down to perfect yet.

I have a few steel rules and scales that I've picked up, Starrett and B&S. I etched the blacks with phosphoric acid, then used über fine sandpaper to polish the chromy surface, leaving the black phosphate fill in the numbers and lines. I did it a few years ago, and used three of those scales this week for various stuff around the shop, so still holding up good. Your mileage may vary, take it or leave it, hey- it worked for me.

Thanks for the link: the end result is excellent. I think the key is the rubber squeegee and having the ruler elevated on a block that is slightly narrower.

Now I need to add Rust-Oleum Satin Black to my shopping list!

UPDATE:
I ordered (all from Amazon with Prime) the hobby lacquer paint (arrived quickly) and the Lacquer-Stik.
The first Lacquer-Stik arrived as a PAINTSTIK (different product). Refunded and reordered from a different 'Sold By' source.
The second package seems to be lost in transit so I have requested a refund and reordered from a third 'Sold By' source.
"Free Prime Delivery" not due until next Wednesday (5 days). Prime is Poop.
From where I sit, Amazon seems to be experiencing significant negative buoyancy.
I'm waiting for a Lacquer-Stik before I tackle the project. I expect to try all three products and report back.

I only order from amazon prime no 2nd or 3rd party , I also try to find things now that are same day or next day delivery. Selection and service has tanked on amazon as it has in many places. Also I hate going to brick and mortar stores only to have them say "we can order that for you"

You can change you Prime Day, and can usually get things sooner at Check-Out (with some selections depending on where they are shipped from). Unless I need something sooner, I look for the "Deliver next Tuesday and geta $XX Digital Credit" offer - helps pay my Prime extra channel subscriptions.

I'm still happy with Amazon, having maybe ad good luck? In many cases, even if something isn't Prime (or shipped & sold by Amazon), it's still cheaper than elsewhere. I just ordered a 1.2" Setting Ring for 2/3 of what it would have cost from Grainger & others.

I will still use it as its often convenient as we have several warehouses in short distance so lots of daily needs are covered.
