I found this at a yard sale this weekend. I know it is some kind of specialty belt driven grinder but not sure what it was designed to grind. It was in with a bunch of automotive tools so my guess would be in that realm. The part holder holds something flat that is maybe .300" wide. It rotates and has markings for angles. Any ideas on what it was for?

bench grinder..belt goes through the middle to motor below...possible drill/tool sharpener on right

Beats me, the only thing I can think of is a parting tool grinder. but I know it's not. Hmm, interesting. Any name marks? Contact Tony over at the archives "The machine tool bible" and see if he knows what it is and list it in the unknown tool section.

I thought of valve grinder when I saw it but could not see how you would clamp them in it. There are no company names or numbers on it other than angle marks.

Looks like it has possibilities as a tool and cutter grinder... Nice find, Jeff. I need to get over to Boone, you have better garage sales!

Looks like it is for grinding bits for an old drum brake lathe.

Lots of good gusses guys, It is for an ACME threading machine! There are four dies which can be clamped into the fixture and dressed up a bit, then the deburring wheel finishes the threading ends so they will not (rip) the cut threads. Used two of them during my apprenticeship at Black Clawson in Everett Washington, one on the floor, and the other in the toolroom.
