I'm new here and trying to figure out how to successfully post pictures. Thought you might like my shaper. I bought it last spring from a lady whose dad passed on to The Great Machine Shop.It was posted on CL and was only about two miles from home. It's an 8" Shape-Rite.The manual is dated 1960 and lists the weight at 755 lbs. - pretty stout machine. The clean-up was easier than I anticipated. Krud Kutter easily dissolved the dark staining and a wipe with paint thinner finished it up.
Have used it for a few small projects - nothing outstanding but it works well and am pleased with it. metal shaper 004.jpg metal shaper 005.jpg metal shaper 007.jpg metal shaper 008.jpg metal shaper 006.jpg metal shaper.jpg

Nice. That's one solid little puppy. I picked up a Lewis 10" a few months ago and I really like the finish it gives compared to a mill. I still have a lot of learning to do with it.

Nice machine. I've read that it is very strong for it's size. I have enjoyed my Lewis. Joe

Nice machine! I still haven't gotten over selling my 12" Hendey 10 years ago when I had a long distance move. I'm looking for another shaper but good ones don't come up that often. My hunt goes on and enjoy your machine - you'll love it.

I have to admit to a hankering for one of those...nice find, looks great!

I too have an 8" Shape Rite shaper. I lucked out and bought mine for $20 from some clueless kid some years back. My machine was actually setting in a garage that was slated for demolition and would have been gone along with the entire structure it was setting in a week after I got it! In fact I only heard about it from a neighbor that knew I messed with machine shop stuff; it wasn't even advertised.

I do have one question for you. Can you make a simple adjustment and rotate the whole table both right and left? I was just curious as my machine is like that. My machine is about a twin for your machine. Those machines are heavy muthers!

I have two 7" atlas shapers that both work nice--- don't know why one is----orange color--it is my second one that I may sell or trade later. a guy shouldn't have two of everything in his shop if it is a small shop should he???davids camera 5-2012 077.jpgdavids camera 5-2012 103.jpgdavids camera 5-2012 070.jpgdavids camera 5-2012 074.jpgdavids camera 5-2012 075.jpgdavids camera 5-2012 104.jpg

Well, DUH! He should obviously set up a second shop (or at least make it bigger). ;) :lmao:

Nice shapers.

I do have more shops, but I have been collecting for years and we moved to a location 40 miles away from my larger shop. my new shop areas are smaller so I'm trying to figure what to keep and which machines to sell or trade for smaller machines---I'm sure a lot of you are in similar situations. I figured if I joined this group that trading or selling would open avenues. I still have an older brigeport, a hendy/norton universal hor mill, a #30 menards bench vert mill, three older atlas/clausing, and walker-turner drill presses, a 9" sb lathe, a hardinge lathe, an engraving mill and probably more items that I still need to bring to my new location if they will fit. I still don't have 220v or heat in my new shop here, so I'm still in transition until my previous place sells. I do know that I will sell or trade the orange shaper when I get settled. it seems that a lot of members have an interest in them. Dave
