This is the band saw I found at an estate sale. It was sitting outside and it was pretty rusty. I noticed it was missing the slot for the miter bar so I looked closer. Metal cutting indeed! Yea, now it was crusted over with about 10 pounds of mud dauber nests and the belt was a rag but I asked the fellow running the sale "What about this?" He said $50.00. I said "if it runs". We found a two wheeler and plugged it it. I has an old open frame motor and I guess it had a few dauber nests in the motor too. A red sand storm exploded out from under the rusty table, but it ran. The money changed hands and it was hauled off to the shop. Now for a more complete exam. It has a small air pump to blow the chips away from the front of the blade. Belt missing....the old blade appears to have been used to saw cinder blocks.......new blade is ordered and installed. Light not working, rewiring it and the rest of the old cracked wires for good measure. Now it's time to bondo the ugly spots and paint. I have wanted one of these for a while, now I can check this off the want list.

I wrote the length on the saw with a pencil,soI would not forget it. Now I know where it is,I just don't remember what it is. Duh........

Done that before many times---I have a picture of my old vertical metal cutting band saw and I see where I wrote 140" blade length on the cover in black ink marker-----Dave

nice find! for a metal one i'd spend 50 3 times over!

By the time I got the blade, two belts and the wiring stuff to do it right, the price is doubled. Bondo and paint will raise the cost a little more but I have already used it for a half dozen little jobs that would have been hacksaw work. I just love the accuracy it's capable of doing. I can cut right to the layout lines and then just a quick pass on the filer and buffer and "voila",finished parts with minimum effort and half the time.
Aren't good tools worth every cent! More work in less time and it looks just as good as all hand done stuff.

You can get new Urethane tires for the wheels on ebay if needed too. The old ones tend to fall apart over the years and new makes it like a new machine.

I rat around on a 4x6 and you have all that area to swing work on - considering the number of times I use it maybe I've got to go look for one too!

I didn't go looking for this one, I've coveted one for a while but I just was in the right place at the right moment and BAM! ,there it was.
It's kind of like my shaper, comparator, air compresser,et al. I get them and then in short order wonder how I did much of anything without them. I have a lot of shops and friends that have specialized tools that I can borrow/use but I really like having it there in my playhouse
so I can just use it whenever I need it. In the summers out in the desert ,a lot of my work is done after dark when it's a little cooler. Ie, the name, 10 acres of cactus, mesquite and other poisonous, venomous,or prickly things live and grow. But it's all mine......mwwwwaaaahaha.

I only have just under 4 acres but 3 1/2 are grass (AKA lawn) which takes away from shop time. My vermin are woodchucks. I family of them burrowed next to a support pole in my pole shed which sunk 6". Do snakes do that ?
