Hello all,

I have recently acquired a mini lathe and am just starting to learn how to use it, so I dont have any experience. Today I was able to buy at a superb discount price a great Rohm revolving center with changeable ends.

The problem is that my tail chuck is a MT2 and the Rohm revolving center is a MT3. I have been searching on ebay to find a converter sleeve, and I am having trouble choosing one. I can find MT2 to MT3 and MT3 to MT2 but they all seam the same... I need one that is thiner outside (MT2 in the tail chuck) and larger inside (MT3 in the revolving centre)

I may be confused, but ebay sellers seam to not distinguish between MT2 to MT3 or MT3 to MT2.

Can anyone point me what should I look??

Hope all of you have a happy new year.

Vasco

Or it there is enough room you could have the taper redone to your tail stock. Mite find someone on here to do it.

If the live center is a MT3 and the Tailstock is a MT2, there is no MT Sleeve that goes up in Taper that I know of. It just will not work in your lathe.

I found this and I stand corrected. You need the 816, but to use it in that small lathe would add a big limitation on stock length.

I will need 12 cm ( 5inches) Max of stock. Most times 4 will be enough.

I have found this, it may do the trick... would you agree? It will be sturdy enough?

I cannot agree or disagree with you on this. They give no specs other than the tapers on that adapter. The live center will hang out of it probably 3+inches. Let's say the overhang is 4 inches on the adapter. That's 7+ inches. You take it from there. It's a lot of money to tie up in something that may or may not work for you.

As for strength, again not enough info givin.

What are you doing that uses 4" or 5" of stock that you need a tailstock?

Why would the chuck not work?

I am doing fountain pens. I use acrilic or ebonite. They are very flexible, hence the need of using a live center in the tail stock.

You are right, I will try to find a less expensive solution.

Turning my live centre morse cone using a lathe would work, would just ruin the centre?

I would sell the # 3 set & take the proceeds & buy a # 2 live center. That's a nice set up that you have & if your thinking about getting a larger lathe in the future you may want to hold onto it. Check in some of the wood working catalogs, you should be able to find a live center specifically for the job your doing without buying a whole set. Just one # 2 live center want break the bank & your set up will be more stable. Some wood working suppliers are Rockler & woodcraft. I hope this helps you.
