[Metrology] Mitutoyo alternatives?

I have a Fowler digital caliper that has worked fine for 4 years. Battery lasts more than a year. My favorite micrometer is a Mitutoyo mechanical digital. Smooth, very easy to read on either the barrel or the display, no batteries. I have a set of Starret mics but rarely use them. I have two old USSR mics that work OK. My first DTI was a Chinese import. Moved by jumps. Now use my Mitutoyo, very smooth. I've got Mitutoyo, Shars, and an older Japanese DI, all seem to work fine. I have gage pins, test bars and Jo blocks as references. All of the above are more accurate than I am. It seems like the Mitutoyo stuff is very good and considerably cheaper than the high end stuff. Good enough for an old hobbyist.
