Mill / bare steel maintenance?

Possible coatings that help prevent rust better than plain oil:

Boeshield T9.

Fluid Film (aerosol lanolin) if you won't mind the aroma (kinda like sheep, eh wot?)
Also available at farm stores.

Make your own Fluid Film-like coating by dissolving melted anhydrous lanolin in kerosene, WD-40 or suchlike.

Aside: Once you have the lanolin, you can make a homebrew penetrating oil mix called "Ed's Red," consisting of 1 part lanolin, 5 parts mineral spirits, 1 part ATF.
