MATH Formula for figuring 1000ths into degree's

If you had an angle block set you could set your compound angle off of the chuck face using the proper angle needed.

I forgot to add

On the setup I forgot to say I will also use the
tail stock dead center.......so the protractor is now between centers reading "0" on the
left and 180* on the tailstock, if not, move the crosslide in or out till it reads 0 and 180*,
then swivel the compound to check for concentricy just like dialing in a 4 jaw. No doubt
a test indicator can also be used dialing in the protractor. I guess after a perfect setup
you could glue or screw the protractor to the block if need be I choose not; fits in draw
better.

I like your approach on this, I have a Grizzly lathe that has the degree marks in the cross-slide on the operator side of the compound. The problem is at about 25 degrees, due to the width of the cross-side, I run out of marks, or the compound covers them. I currently fumble with a protractor.

Did that 1937 Hudson Terraplane have an electric shift on the steering column? A friend of mine had a 1935 Terraplne coupe during our teen years, -- many memories brought back, we skipped choir practice a lot. I think the Hudson cars were ahead of their time.

Have a good day
