Yes, I roughed the cavity on. A doosan 3016 high speed, with ballmill 0.5" SGS of 6" lenght running at 6000 @ 120 inches per minute. Cutting at full depht, that is almost 2" but only 0.025" of radial depht.
then the finish is done in a deckel maho DMU100T with a 3/16 ball mill running at 6500rpm @ 100 I/Min. Barely cutting 0.015" of thickness of material , stepover is 0.012" on 5axes continuos. I dont use coolant but use cold air to avoid thermal shock on the carbide. Eventually I spray oil mist.
Programming for the roughing can be done on any software fine. 5axes code needs a special postprocessing and we use a special german software that came with the machine.
the reason I rough in the doosan is because it has scraped square box type guides, very robust. And I take a lot of care for the DMU, by using only for finishing with trochoidal moves I minimize the jerks and extend the life and accuracy.
