Well it's back together, clean and painted. I didn't paint the motor mount and drive because I want to redo all of that, make something that looks like it was designed and not just thrown together with what ever was laying around. I want to go more to a rear mount motor rather than top mount. I also put some hocky puck leveling feet I made on it.
The worm gear drive for the power fee was worn bad, .050 end play in the gear and the Key that drives it was substantially worn as well so I made a new key and shimmed the gear so it's a lot tighter, I can see a new gear in the future as the gear is quite worn as well but good enough for now.
That was the only repair I did this time but I found an interesting gear tooth repair in the apron when I took it apart.
Now I want to change the motor and drive set up so what is the min and max rpm this lathe should run at?
It now runs at 380 RPM, 640 RPM and 1060 RPM.
I just bought a treadmill for $15 to scavenge the motor and speed control out of so that's the motor I will be using and I need to figure the amount of reduction I will need and whether the motor will have enough speed range or will I need to maintain the step pulley.
I'd love to see anyone's rear mounted motors to get some ideas from if you have pics. and as always suggestions always appreciated.
