I'm looking to convert a desk task lamp to a lathe lamp; it has a good strong gooseneck and solid base. Want to remove the base inside the decorative base and replace it with a magnet. I've seen buymagnets.com...is it any good? McMaster?

Second, how does one measure magnetic force and how do I know I have enough magnetism?

thanks
Tim

Don’t know if this work but they are strong,at Home Depot in welding Dept they sell magnet for the grounding cable which has I think a 3/8 bolt stud maybe that would work

Think I found my answer on Amazon. Far cheaper...I just need to get the specs straight and find one with a small enough center hole.

yes, saw it...thanks!

I've used kjmagnetics.com. Pretty much every shape and size of magnet you might want. They list the pulling force in pounds for most of their magnets.

thanks, I'll try all of these....and I do have old hard drives, should've occurred to me!
