Magna Shopsmith Bandsaw for Metal?

I don’t remember where I found a pulley calculator but it was super simple. It enabled me to not only do the double reduction, but even told me the belt lengths! Just the thing for a math impaired dummy like me.I

Ive always found I never seem to get in trouble going slow. At 120fpm(which one guy said the DoAll ran at) I’m still using the original Lenox blade I bought when I did the conversion. The addition that also made a big effect was the air powered sled I added. I’ve cut 3”x3“ blocks of aluminum, iron and steel. Just chuck it up and set the air pressure and let it go. Kept me from getting impatient and pushing to hard.
I'm interested in the air powered sled. I tried a search but came up empty handed...

I assume your talking to me. I looked in different forums and most seem to agree the FPM for steel is around 120. Stock the HF 14” set up for wood is 3,000fpm. So instead of going with a gear box I went with a double belt reduction, 14” to 2” to 14” to 2” and used an old table saw motor mount. So they all hang off the main pulley auto tensioning.
Sorry, yes, original poster. Thanks. Now I get to kick myself for pitching the old Craftsman 10" TS motor mount when I salvaged the table and wings. Never fails LOL.

David, try searches for "air feeds" This site has shows a couple for production work that give a good idea of the design.

My first CL fail was an old Grizzly table saw. I repurposed almost all of it except for main body and table, and now I wish I would have kept it. The wings made a wonderfully accurate welding table. They are flat within .003!

Sorry I lost my pics of my bandsaw when I upgraded my iPad. I’ll try to redo them today and post.

Already kicking myself over the two ER-10 speed reductions I got rid of, but how did you rig your jack shaft?
How robust are those ER-10 vari speed boxes?

Here’s the sled. And just one of the setups. I don’t think to take pics of the really crazy ones. I keep most of what I use on magnets on the upper wheel guard.

General pics of the double reduction. I hope they make sense.

Good. But it isn't a box and would take adapting. They mount on the two 1.75" tubes.

:encourage: perfect! Thanks so much!
