i need some of this big time!
i want to use it on cnc router table.
i have a ton of practice work to do.
think soft! think inexpensive!
also i want to get it from someplace like hobbylinc.com
or home depot walmart.
not from the 'machinable wax/plastic' specialty houses.

How about getting it from a garbage can? You can make your own machineable way by melting wax and the caps from water bottles together. You increase the amount of the plastic additions till it will not hold any more in solution and Voila' Machinable wax!!!! Pour this concoction into a suitable mold, allow to cool completely and you have a media that will machine quite nicely. I am unsure of the exact name of the plastic but a quick google will reveal it, if not PM me and I will go to tha site I read about it on and get it for you. Good luck and have fun.

Can you use wood? it's soft and inexpensive, available from multiple outlets, comes in standard forms and it grows on trees.

Blue board foam insulation works great. Very soft doesn't chip out and is cheap. I have my students run all of there parts on the CNC in it first.

i'll keep it simple.
you can mix plastic with wax?

here's pic of my cnc router table.
probotics electronics and motors.
my TABLE is different in that it is
built from plans.
i'll post the CNC router table plans site.

You might take a look at this stuff:

I bought mine off of amazon.com for a couple of one-off projects I have on my "list". Haven't got to them yet so I can't speak to how well it works. Go for it and let me know, okay? ;)

Hope that helps,

RCB,
Yes you can mix the two. The parafin can get very hot without boiling off and the plastic is one of the lower melting temp flavors so they can be combined and create machinable way. It is actually pretty tough when done properly and machines nicely.

i was going to say what's the ratio of plastic caps to wax but
you say keep adding caps until it does what?
what kind of temperatures are we talking about?
i have a hobby oven i got on clearance a Michael's
that goes up to 350 degrees.
dad can't do it in mom's oven for obvious reasons.:)
we were using cutting boards from sam's club, 2 packs.

Have A Nice Day!
