Lubricant channels - Lathe Cross Slide -

I did my lathe carriage with a carbide burr in a dremel. Looked like crap but it does the job. The tailstock I did with a carbide ball end mill (1/16 or 3/32) in my "mill" with straight lines and grooves branching off at 90deg. Looked much nicer, does just the same job :)

Take a look at the oil grooves I molded in place with thin detailing tape on my 20" Lodge & Shipley lathe a few years back.

Oh, I'm going to have to eat my words about cutting right angle oil grooves. At least, it's at the oil injection point of the cross slide

You could draw the zig-zag lines and set the part up on a mill at an angle, so that the x travel lines up with every other line. Proceed to cut every other line then set the part up so the travel lines up with the rest of the lines and cut them. Definently more work than a die grinder but if you don't like the idea of non-pretty slots it would allow you to cut them straight.
