Lathe moved - finally. A bit wordy but there are pics

What type of mill do you have? [ /QUOTE]
Its a Hare & Forbes Bridgeport clone. Can't remember the model, BM50/ 52 perhaps. Its about 1983 as well.

I gather it is 3ph, so if it can be wired delta for 240v 3ph, you can get a VFD from China for under $140, 240v 1ph goes in and 240v 3ph comes out. Simples... OR you may have to buy a 415v-240v 3ph motor from TECO to go with the VFD if you want variable speed. Or get a 240v 1ph motor...[ /QUOTE]
I haven't really looked into that side of it yet. Just have too many other things to get done first. I'm still thinking about how I'm going to get it up to the back shed. It weighs 1000kg. Probably have to dissasemble it. I'll probably look at a phase convertor of some sort eventually as I have a 3 phase cold saw as well[ /QUOTE]

Keep up the reports of your progress. Mate, did I drool aver those Bolwells when I was a youngster[ /QUOTE] Good deduction re the Bolwell - or do I know you? lol. My Mk7 was originally put together out Richmond way apparently.

Hi Bollie, My Bridgeport's last move was done by my mate and I to his place (we did a swap deal) with a H&F folding engine crane and my 7x5 trailer. We had to dismantle it by taking off the head, ram and turret, all separate, to reduce the weight (he was going to take it apart anyway to give it a nice paint job). We used a couple of bits of 2x2x1/4 angle clamped in the turret mount and a wire rope sling to lift it. The trailer felt it with that load, I can tell you. Just going up your back yard shouldn't be a problem, except for traction :-)

If you plan on putting a concrete pad outside the shed door, now might be a good time to do it!! It will be a lot easier to handle the mill.

Yellow Bolwell Mk7 on thread "How did you get your user name etc". Nice car...

Ross, looking at your pics of the Bridgeport I suspect it might be a tad heavier than my clone. My trailer would take the weight with the head, ram and table off it. Traction should be ok if we haven't had any recent rain. I've got an Awd Magna and it's brilliant for towing. (or pushing in this case)

Funny that you say that as I was thinking about the same thing a couple of days ago. So much to do. this working for a living really slows a bloke down.
