I like to work with other woods other than briar when making pipes. I really like Mulberry, which makes an excellent pipe-Iv'e been smoking one for about 4 years now- and also bog oak, also known as Morta. Recently made two Morta pipes for a gent in Michigan.
This Mulberry went to a gent in New Orleans. He liked it well enough to order a second.
Just finished this Morta. Wood is from Russia. Have some from Ireland but it arrived to wet to work. The wood used for this one is relatively "young"--only 1600 years old. The first one was 3700 years old.
Stems in both were cut from "Tortoise Shell" acrylic rod and have delrin tenons and a wood inlay. The pipes are buffed with white diamond compound and finished with a coat of carnuba. Have another Morta started and waiting for some Mulberry to come in.
