Aluminum bronze is very tough material but you can get it by the inch from SpeedyMetals.com. I just made a cross slide nut from it. The actual size was about 1/16” larger than the listed dimensions on the piece I bought, consistent with the description on their website. I bought a piece 1”x1-1/4”x3” just in case I messed up the first one. I made the nut 1.5” long; a little longer than the original to give it more wear area.
To find where to drill the pilot hole for the cross slide screw I made a sort of transfer punch. It closely fit the cross slide screw opening so it was well centered. Once the cross slide nut was at a point where it could be attached to the cross slide I installed it and used the shop made transfer punch to locate the center of the pilot hole.
The pictures and description of what I did start on post #40.
