Laminar Flow Stirling engine complete!

Now, I've seen everything. That is an amazing bit of science.
 
What is the material inside the glass where the heat is being applied? It looks like a scrunched up stainless steel pot scrubber.

It is 0000 stainless steel wool!

I have some coarse stainless pot scrubber material that i want to try.
Apparently it changes the running characteristics of the engine.
