This is for the KO Lee experts out there... I don't see a specific section for KO Lee.
I recently acquired a KO Lee S718HG hydraulic surface grinder in what appears to be very good condition, but it's been difficult to find literature about its functions. It has X and Y hydraulic functions, an electronic magnetic chuck, and a coolant system. It's the "blue" version, and I'm guessing that that it was made near 1980. I have tested the machine, and I need help sorting out either my ignorance concerning how the machine functions or functions that need repair.
1. The cross feed (Y axis) feeds inward and outward using hydraulic control, but only moves outward when manually turning the cross feed wheel. In other words, in manual mode, the cross feed wheel is free spinning when trying to move the cross feed inward.
2. The table's X axis moves right and left when using the hydraulics or when turning the control wheel. However, to manually move the table left/right, one has to pull out the control wheel against spring tension to activate the movement and the control wheel returns to its free spinning position if pressure is not maintained on the return spring. There is a knurled knob on the control wheel, but it doesn't appear to affect the control wheel function. I would think that the control wheel should be able to remain in the outward position for manual grinding.
3. There is a Bijur oil pump on the left side of the grinder with an electrical connection. I presume that it automatically lubricates the ways, but I'm not certain.

Any help will be appreciated.

It looks pretty rusty so check the ways and clean them if they are rusty. Has it been sitting outside for a while? Did you check the oil? It might have water in it. Drain the old oil and wipe out the tank, clean the strainer / filter in the tank. Put in new oil. I would also check the Hydraulic pressure, I would think 200 PSI. It may say in the manual. I didn't read the whole thing.

The spring sounds normal. It pushes it out so when it is running hydraulicly if the spring didn't work, the spinning handle could hit you.
