I think 1K with all those tools was a good deal and it is always nice to help out a friend and mentor.

can I be the first to say "you suck" ?
that box has character just oozing off it. . . .
this is in a good way.

It is a blast looking threw tool boxes and better still if you know the owner. You can see evidence of past jobs. special tools ground for a purpose. Hand worn tools that were a man's livelihood. sad in some ways but happy that they served the owner well. Thanks for posting the pictures.

I had a situation very similar to yours. I bought a huge lot of tools and tooling from a guy whose father was a master machinist, and passed away a few years back. The tools were in his garage collecting dust and rusting. He wasn't into machine work, so he wasn't going to use them. I told him how much toy money I had to spend, and asked what pieces I could buy. He thought about it for a few seconds, and said I could take everything. He said his dad would have wanted someone who was going to use them to have them. It's is an honor, and also a responsibility to take care of them and learn to use them. He made nearly every piece because they all have his name stamped in them.

The tools were all loose. No tool box, so I went out and bought a huge new tool box to keep them in so they wouldn't rust in my garage. A small price to pay for the privilege of ownership. I want to learn to use every one of them.

Next week as time allows I'll go through and try to sort and sell off whatever will be in the way. I knew he could use the funds. He was always the shop super so he let his tools be used. He would complain about people breaking or losing his tools but he still allowed them to be used especially the young guys he was teaching the trade. Last few years he was helping a drilling servise and the guys they hired would really try but to me they will never make much of themselves.
