Just Picked Up A Jet 13x25

Thanks for the replies, guys. I just got the garage reorganized to accommodate the new lathe so now I can really start playing with it and make a mess. One thing that I forgot to mention that was weird: when I first fired it up after cleaning, belts, etc...I was facing a piece of brass and there was a pattern of very gentle high/low ridges being cut into it, and after a little bit of tinkering with it, fixed it by tightening up the gib on the back of the carriage (pretty sure my terminology is correct). I hope that was a correct fix and not a symptom of a larger or different problem.

Gibs will definitely affect accuracy and finish. When I get a new machine I pay particular attention to those and check back periodically. Nice catch. :)

Nice lathe. I learned on one similar. We have a Taiwanese Jet 1236PBD at work that we purchased new right after I started in 1988. Great lathe, unfortunately ours is not in quite that good of condition any more due to so many non-experienced mechanics playing on it rather than asking for assistance. I can't count how many times it has been crashed in the past 10 or so years.

Mike.

Except for the length of the bed, that looks identical to my lathe, which is the 1336PBD.
Yours is in very nice condition.
