Jumpy igaging DRO

Been away from the machine for awhile... the problem is still there. Note it didn't do it at first, so I don't think it's the scale orientation; it's hard to tell but I think it's oriented as described above. At this point it's unusable. I took it apart and cleaned it (though I didn't see anything), and replaced the batteries. When I replaced the batteries I used the spares that came with the scales; I think somebody mentioned they aren't good batteries so maybe I should buy new ones?

Oddly the y-axis is still working fine and it's not covered at all; the x-axis is under a cover and it's the one that's giving me fits.

G'Day Fellas,
Had a similar problem with X axis display on my RF 31, cleaned the scale and replaced the crappy Chinese battery with a fresh Varta, cured the problem, I purchase my batteries from Germany for a fraction of the cost of the Chinese rubbish, link here :

only when the spindle is running or all the time? swapping in some known good batteries would be the best starting point.

I was having on and off issues with my Y axis DRO from day 1. I tried all the cable re-routing, motor on/off, cleaning, etc., but still had the problem. I was extra careful to reinstall in the same orientation when I removed the slide from the reader to cut to length; however, removing the slide and turning it over fixed my problem completely. I have experienced any jumping whatsoever since doing this. HTH

Oops - just saw that this thread is nearly 6 months old - maybe the info will help others though should they find it in a search.

FanMan is the OP, he is still having issues.

One of mine does that. I changed the batteries and it seemed to stop. I know that the fluorescent light over my mill will cause mine to randomly turn on when it is cold and the light flickers.

did fanman buy them from me ? I'm still here if he did, i didn't hear from that i remember. . .

it would be interesting to hear from people that are having problems with them as i have another large shipment of iGaging and Absolute ones for sale.
see the classified section. . .

I just installed a Mitutoyo quill battery powered readout on my mill.
It comes with some plastic mylar type stuff to insulate the readout
from the machine and insulation for the mounting screws. The
literature says it is to keep stray motor voltage from messing up the
readings.

This probably isn't your problem but I thought it might be useful information
for someone getting occasional erroneous readings.

David, yes, I bought them from you. Although I first had the problem last summer I put off dealing with it because I wasn't using the mill for awhile until recently. I'll try reversing the scale tomorrow night, and also buying new batteries, as well as swapping the readouts to see where the problem is.

It doesn't matter whether the spindle motor is running or not.

Oddly, when it jumps, it usually jumps in some multiple of 0.100", which is the preset value I have set for the .200" diameter edge finder.

on thing at a time. . . . first the batterys. . . . . show me a photo of how you have it mounted. we will figure it out. . . . it may be a relatively easy correction. . .
if you never did have the reader off the scale there is no reason to suspect its backwards. if it was acting up right out of the box, i will figure out another way. . .
keep me informed please.
