Well...I'll be danged. I never knew there was such a thing, guess I was just not paying attention. I have an old Craftsman drill press (floor style) that my father had from probably the 1950's with the original chuck AND...the original chuck key. I have laying around a REALLY nice keyless chuck I decides to try on the Craftsman...We'll see how I like it, but I was enlightened to the fact there is such a taper...Ya never stop learning.

if i'm not mistaken that is the most common JT.
 
Probably, but have you ever used something extensively and not noticed an obvious detail...like using a pencil but not aware it was #2 lead...

never payed attention until i had to get a kwik switch 200 shank holder to hold a chuck and almost all i found was JT33. there are others just not as common (on the small chucks i use).
 
here's what happens I guess when someone doesn't know how to get a chuck out of an MT2 taper. they go to the hammer.
