So I made it myself. Portable shop light. I had one of the tripod lights sold for years with the light that got so hot it would fry the insects 6 feet away from it. I still have the tripod but not heavy duty enough to hold a good shop light. The light I used is a Hyperlite out door type. The ones you would see on the sides of buildings above doorways etc. I made it extendable so it can go high enough to span out the light in the corner above a machine or bench but will collapse low enough that with the hood of my car or truck open it will flood the topside of the engine compartment from 10 feet away.

The old 6 bolt brake drum and axle i used for the base has been in my shop for over 40 years . It was here when I bought the place and couldn't throw it away and couldn't come up with a good use for it. Anybody else have the problem. It's not hording it is just being cheap and resourcefull.... lol

As I age I find I need much more light on my projects.

I also keep things for future use. I do NOT consider it hoarding, just wise use of resources. So what if something has been waiting a decade or two to find a use, it is there when I need it.

Good work on this light!

Very nice! Recyclye at it's best. We moved almost 5 yrs ago. I had to 'downsize' quite a bit. I gave away, sold, left much stuff. Some I'd had for 30 yrs. It's odd how I've gone to use some items, and remembered "oh, you gave that away"

Yup, the need for light has gotten more and more pronounced. Since coming on to LED’s and especially the little mag base sewing lights I’ve canned all my old halogen lights. As frustrating as it is to not have enough light ,shadows are my nemesis so these little sewing lights tick all the boxes for me. I think I have one on every machine in the shop now.

Along with the changing tech my “engineering bin” has gone through rearranging. We bit the bullet and have decided to go for the yard overhaul that has been on the docket since we moved here. The major improvement was a new shed with the idea of better storage of engineering supplies but also machine overflow of much like the supplies, machines that are not first in line but useful and can’t be replaced easily like beadblast cabinet, table saw, scaffolding to name a few. So quite a bit has been retained and rediscovered but probably 30% has gone away. Maybe I’ll be disappointed I let some of it go but having everything more organized has been a boon to the main shop.

At my age My last eye exam they said I could expect cataracts in the future. Being a diabetic and on blood thinners for my heart I cringe at any kind of medical procedures. I had all 32 of my teeth pulled in one day and 6 days later I was headed to the ER because I started back on the blood thinner and got to spend 4 days in the hospital. Damn near bled to death. The pictures under my chin are bruises.
