Humble vintage work horses of the shop

I used to keep Kroil in a pump oiler. Not any more! The check ball in the oiler would stick and not pump. I'd have to take it apart and free it up. I didn't need to use if for a couple of years, and the next time I did, it wouldn't pump. The check ball had rusted to the cylinder, and the whole inside of the unit was rusty.

It was an inexpensive unit from the local NAPA store, but oil shouldn't attack steel!
Lots of solvent in penetrating oil.

If I see an old oiler at an Estate sale I will always buy them. Oilers and grease guns are cheap insurance but if they are not handy it is too easy to skip. You can never have too many oilers.

Nice! You must have paid big bucks foe the sweet one on the far right! :)

I keep looking for the pretty brass Eagles but no joy yet. Mine isn't useable.
Mine were not pretty, but I cleaned them up, took them all apart, I had to remove the trigger button to do a proper job. Then re-peaned it back.
They are good now. It appears they had a brass plating, on top of brass... IDK why???? That peeled off and looks better w/out the peeling.
The pump is easy. You may need to replace the packing. I replaced both top gaskets. They were falling apart. I think I either used gasket material, or cork... can't remember.

Mine is badly cracked. Someone soldered it but it's pretty bad. The pump and everything seems to work. 20220525_144606.jpg

I just have a screwdriver and a gallon jug...
