Someone gave me an Armstrong boring bar and I need to grind a new cutter and put it in the bar. I'm assuming that the end of the bar screws on to tighten the cutter, but I can't for the life of me can't get it loose. Can anyone help me?

Thanks,
Bob

Check closely to see if its a torx screw head. But, probly uses an inch/metric allen wrench.

Good Luck

Old Armstrong boring bar with a end the has 4 notches in it? Yes the end screws off. When I get back out to the shop in the morning I can take some pictures of the tool that comes with the bar to remove the end.

The long shank unscrews from the slightly larger diameter body holding the cutter. A rather strange arrangement. Clamp the head in a vise, and unscrew the shank is how I did it. Doesn't seem like the best or least destructive way to design a boring bar.

J.H.Williams #0B 1/2" boring bar. Not Armstrong, but might be assembled the same way. Right hand thread.

The picture that Ken posted is what I have. Mine must be pretty tight, I put it in the vise and tried to loosen it and had no luck. Is there a wrench that fits on the end?

Bob

These are made to fit different size bars, I have one wrench with 3 or 4 sizes in it but I don't have a pic.

Here's a couple of pictures of removing a tool bit.

The last picture shows the three different heads that used to come with a bar.
