How To Cut a Chunk of Steel?

Sometimes, hardwood scraps come in handy for impromptu work holding. Make them out of steel for long term use.

Unfortunately, all my sawing is done with a standard 12" Hacksaw and I'm getting TIRED.
When I get skilled enough, I shall try to build a bench size power hacksaw using the 12" blades.

BB,
I can commiserate with you. A hack saw is a great thing for certain applications: like keeping students occupied in class. It also fits where others can't go. It has good control too but for long runs or thick metal it is a royal pain. I picked up a not bad King gravity drop saw for not a bad price years ago. Not perfect but for the amount I use it it is fine. My neighbour has used it far more than I. He made a wack of ramps for our local skate park and it still just chugs along. It was a demo unit that was missing some minor parts that I have never needed. Before I would make a power hacksaw I would search for a bandsaw- even a good used one will make a big difference. Unless you just really need another project. My motto is: I don't need anymore projects! Cheers.

Hi, Rob.
The problem is that it is 12L14 and doesn't weld well from what I'm told. I haven't tried it myself but I try to learn from the mistakes of others because I won't live long enough to make them all myself.
