How many QCTP holders do we need?

My OXA came with two regular, one boring and a cut off holder. I figure I will need a minimum of at least 10 more to hold the tools for a specific project. Once the project is completed, return the tools to there place and load others for the next project. I can't imagine needing more than ten on a particular project, but I suppose anything is possible.

Simple answer, as many as it takes. I have at least 15 for my AXA.

I'm jealous now!

I've got to go buy more holders to keep up with you guys!

OK Frank.

In my earlier years of life, I slaved over a 36" Monarch that had a old "E" piston type Aloris tool post on it. Took everything I had back then to lift the boring bar holder with a 3" bar installed in it and place it on the tool post! I don't miss them one bit.

I love my AXA's and my BXA's very much! Then I jump up to the CA's for my L & S when I get it running.

holy smokes, I could not lift a 3" boring bar
the bigger the machine the more i like seeing them i'd love to see the old tools that built the great steam liners. getting a crane to change a tool probably no qctp there I have never used a rocker post but the 4 way that came on my 9x20 i hated within a week and i bought my qctp i was going to buy more holders but i really want to make them

I think 20 should do the job. The boring bar holders can be used for other things if modded. My AXA collection is good . I also have a CXA collection thats still growing, but I think for STD tool holders, 20 seems to be enough for me.

What I would like to do one of these days is make up a rack that keeps them all with in reach, and in plain sight. I feel it would make it easyer to pick a tool holder at a glance.

Modded boring bar holders for things like tool post grinder, Ball turner attachment, side driller.
A few extra holders for indicaters

it's like being a mechanic you cant have too many tools anything that makes it easier and faster needs another holder of it's own
i was leaving the stacks of shims with each tool so it was faster. i had them all seperated, a hundred shims probably. i bought old feeler gauges to take apart for shims at the flea market, the tools all layed out took up a whole shelf above my lathe. it's all in a drawer now collecting dust
boy do i love my tool post hahaha

I guess I fall into the 10 crowd but my most useful is the drill / holder I machined
that on the shaper and is slicker than a whistle.

It seems that the answer can be stated mathematically by the formula (n + more), where n is the number you currently have...
