How do I use my coolant pump?

Hi all-
I have a micromaster 618 that came with a separate coolant pump made in Tawain (Falcon brand?). I finally got around to filling it with coolant and tried it out. However, it has 2 different on/off switches in it that leaves me confused a bit.

1 is for a pump, if I have this switch on coolant works just about how I'd expect it to.

2- is for some sort of air-fan. I ended up wiring it in 'both' directions (by switching one of the 2 power wires, the whole block is 3 ph). However, no matter what happens, if I have this on the coolant flow stops. After reversing the wiring, I noticed that it started sucking the coolant out of the drain hose low spot. My tank has a filler hole type thing that isn't sealed, so presumably it can't create full suction.

Am I supposed to be running both at once? Do I have something wired wrong? Am I just supposed to use that pump after the fact to clear out the lines or something?

Any ideas?

Could the fan be for a vacuum system that has been dismantled at some point? You wouldn’t be using both at once and can see the reason for two separate switches.

I don't think it was disassembled, it is 1 big unit with both. It COULD be a vacuum? But it would dump in the coolant tank, and there isn't a good hose for the inlet, which makes me think it is suppossed to suck 'in'.

Got a picture ? This does not sound like the original set-up on a 618 . I can see having the vac for dry grinding only . Perhaps this is the way it was meant to work .

However, no matter what happens, if I have this on the coolant flow stops.

Red hose goes to spindle, clear hose comes from the machines drain. Big motor on top is the air pump thing, coolant pump is lower right.

Found this , maybe it'll help . I wouldn't run a vac wet grinding regardless of what anyone says , but maybe some do . :dunno: I just can't find a purpose to .

Yes that is a vacuum system and coolant system all in one. Your pickup hose for the vacuum would be the 2”ish port closest to the side trap door which is missing. The return for the coolant is the Grey hose that is connected. Like said you wouldnt use both systems at once.

Ok, cool! I didn't realize it was a vacuum system, just seems odd that it dumps into the coolant tray!

Thanks guys!

The coolant tray behind the trapdoor would extinguish any hot sparks and allow you to remove grinding swarf.
