I often need to make custom length bolts and this little jewel which I got the idea from Marv Klotz, is just the ticket. Goes right in the sled and if need be I can clamp it down but often just hold up against the backstop of the sled.

Clever stuff! My sled has a drill press vice but it is not as versatile as those hold downs. Consider that stolen.

Thanks. I think Frank Ford’s sled did too. I decided I needed something more flexible for whatever project I had going at the time. I plan on making more threaded holes in the deck of the sled too as being able to just use mill clamps is too handy.

i didn’t have knowledge or any 3ph motors at the time. Having used it for years now I’ve not felt the need for more speed. I‘ve changed the blade to a wood blade a couple of times to cut UHMW blocks and aluminum and it cut plenty fast. I don’t ever do wood work.

The best thing I ever did was make the air powered feed because then I don’t have to stand there.

yes, the air feed is really slick, I'm very impressed by that.

If a single speed works fine, no need to fix it, but if you ever get the hankering to run it slower (maybe for stainless or similar) it wouldn't be hard to swap the motor out. then again simplicity has a lot to recommend it too!

I would love to have variable speed on mine. Is it possible to use a VFD to slow a single phase 120V motor? I have not seen those available.

New setup to add to the thread. There was a local CL warehouse sale. Turns out it was the place where the old Gumby claymation stuff was done. One of the things I got(the long black bar) was some kind of indexing setup where something could be moved across the screen precisely. It must of cost a fortune as it was machined out of 3x3x36” aluminum. It has some nice little guides and a tiny chain drive that move the table. I gutted it and am in the process of repurposing it as mount for a variable height table I’m bodging onto my UniDrill stand. So I’m purposing Gumby legs you might say Too bad I’m such a dufus with electronics as it was a pretty cool thing. First pic is how it all looked when I brought it all home. It’s in the back.
