Help taking apart Cushman 3 jaw chuck

Most of us use grease on the rear side of the scroll and the pinion. Use a light coat of oil on the front of the scroll, the jaws and jaw guides. You do NOT need a lot of oil on these parts. Personally, I use Super-Lube grease and oil for this job.

When you first turn on the lathe after a clean and lube, all the oil that I said not to put in the chuck will come flying out so put up some kind of absorbent shield in front and behind the chuck to catch the slung off oil.

If you don't do this, at least wear some eye protection and keep your mouth closed.

And if you run it at a pretty good speed for 15 minutes or so, all the excess oil will be gone, and what remains will likely be "just the right amount" for useful lubrication ... eh wot?

I was pretty light on the oil, so not much flew out. Everything came out great though.
