Help needed w/fwd-rev switch BD920N

I'm in a slightly different situation. I changed the motor on my BD-920N to a DC with variable speed. Never throwing anything away I still have the old AC motor, capacitor and switch. I'd like to reuse the lot but I've discovered that the switch associated with 3 in the standard wiring diagrams isn't working in one direction. The motor hums but doesn't run. When the switch is flipped to the other way it starts and runs fine.

When it runs properly I used my multimeter and see that L1 goes to U2/V2 and Z1, L2 goes to U1/V1 and W2.

When it just hums I see that L1 connects to U2/V2 and W2. but L2 only goes to Z1. I need it to turn the other direction all the time so I'll rewire the switch to work. Is the proper wiring to get the second scenario to work for me to connect L1 to tie to U2/V2 and W2 and L2 to tie to U1/V1 and Z1.
