Help identifying this grinder

Thanks Richard, that gives me a place to look.

Brino, thanks for the link. I'm leaning towards the VFD because the motor is only 1/4 HP and static phase converters typically reduce the available power a bit, and I don't have that much to start with, but I'm still in research mode. There are some reasonably priced VFDs out there but a simple capacitor is even cheaper.

McDonough makes the Sterling drill grinder. That is why I mentioned it earlier. I have one but mine was built in 1979.

Well I've spent some more time disassembling the grinder. Under the knob on the front and under several layers of dirt and paint I found a very interesting nameplate.

I've sent an email to the Worcester Polytechnic Institute asking if there is any information available on this. I'll post anything I learn. Perhaps someone out there knows of them.

I look forward to watching the machine come back to life. I love that stuff!

Thanks for all the comments. I'm moving forward with the restoration and will be documenting it on the "Tool Grinder & Surface Grinder" forum as it seems a more appropriate place. See you over there.
