Help: Bitten by Samsung bug

Nooo! Don't drop the Samsung! The screen will crack for sure!

Hi Folks,

Just signed up to get in on the TouchDRO conversation and this looks like a great place to take the plunge.

In anticipation of a TouchDRO installation I have picked up a Samsung A8 10" tablet and haven't even broken the seal yet so I have the option to return it if this bug is going to be a problem.

So:
  1. What is the impact of this bug? Delay of output of position data by whatever the glitch duration is but not losing position? Loss of position?
  2. Is this bug an Android bug or just a Samsung bug?
What else do I need to know before deciding whether to return the tablet?

I'm not impressed, I got the tablet on a good pre-Christmas sale....

Thanks,

Capo:cool:
Return the tablet. With freezing for half of a second the application is not usable (you will be overshooting the position, etc.).

So one thing I've realized with this bug is that people don't look at the TouchDRO system requirements page. I don't know if I want to plaster this over the Google Play Store listing (not sure how our corporate overlords at Google will react to me bashing one of their MVPs.

Other than that, I don't know how to get the point across:
DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG TABLETS RUNNING ANDROID 12 OR NEWER.

If you already have one and can return it, do so.
If your tablet is still running Android 11, block the updates.
Otherwise you are stuck. This is a problem with Samsung's code/OS build and I don't have any way (that I know of) to work around it. I've spent dozens of hours tweaking various things, like timing, garbage collection, etc. and nothing seems to have any effect.

Hello Yuriy

Thanks, I appreciate your clear description.

Since I have not yet opened the box I expect/hope the retailer will happily refund my sale price (and re-sell it at list since the sale is over!). I guess I played it right by not opening the package until all my ducks were lined up and quacking in tune. ;)

Guilty as charged.....sort of.

I spent a lot of time on your site reading & digesting.....before October 2022.....so I fell into the trap.

Thanks for making a clear statement here, I feel your frustration with having to deal with being put in the middle of this hopefully someone at Samsung will take the hint and get their ducks in order.

Thankfully I'm not on a fixed schedule to get my DROs up and running and this sets me back a bit but gives me time to train some of the other ducks!.

Thanks,

P.S. Maybe a Sticky with a suitable title might help spread the word too?

Just checked the receipt, I can return it until midnight Sunday! It's going back!

(Gratuitous post to get me to 3 so the system doesn't call me a SPAMmer)

EDIT: Samsung returned, Lenovo acquired. :) Talked the manager into selling me the Lenovo at the Samsung sale price too. :D
