I am considering using a sewing machine motor and speed control to power my 1" belt sander. has anyone else used an old sewing machine motor to power light duty machines in their shop?

I used one on my mill/drill project. Should make a good variable speed motor for your belt sander.

Prices are good, forum sponsor @The Custom Crafter sells kits specific to our needs.

I have both the Custom Crafter units (X2 Mill and lathe) and one cheaper motor and controller I got from A-zon.

The CC units are much nicer and easier to setup, but you pay a little more.

The cheap sewing machine motor I bought for my bandsaw project works, but its been far more difficult to figure out how to mount the control. Basically Im afraid of destroying the controller to find a better mounting option, and its a lil bulky as is.

I was just thinking of using the foot pedal.
