Has anyone made cutters for making clock gears?

HI Nelson

Re gear cutters
the best place I know for wheel cutters is timekeepersworkbench.com Good single point cutters at a affordable price
$31 50 . Long or short form.

If you want to cut pinions then you will have to get good cutters that only cut the number of teeth( posh clock makers call them leaves) on that pinion ( you may get away with 1 up or down' (See the same site)

If you want to make a clock as a first progect choose one that uses the same pinion number for all the pinions and the same module. then you will have only to by 2 cutters. This was one of the requirements of the 8 day clock In that thread i will also try to cover making lantern pinions.( no cutter required!!)

I will soon be cutting gears for the Brass alarm clock I am making as an instructional project for a 11 year old boy. He
is following me in stages making one for himself. I can cover this in depth and post it as a seperate thread if you wish,
I will be using a small vertical mill, And a dividing head 90/1 ratio.

I am happy to answer PMs for those who do not wish to go into print if its within my capability, Remember I am a
Hobby-Machinist two.

Thanks to Nelson for all his work

BRIAN.
