would not adjust ! so thinking about it decided to alter it which turned out great.......100_4303.JPG

as you can see how low the thumb screw is almost all the way down, but still wasnt in the center of the work so had to grind some meat off to get it centered...........

In this hobby "if thiers a will thiers a way..........

I don't understand why you were unable raise the height-adjust locknuts on the tool holder to lower the tool?

A photo of the setup would help.

The cutoff tool holder shown is designed with a 4 degree angle:

Depending on your new lathe, you may need a 0 degree holder to get the blade on center:

Aside from that, the angled cutoff holders suck because you have to adjust your height anytime you change the stickout. A straight holder (get a good one) requires no further adjustment. When parting a large piece I will often adjust the stickout two or three times to preserve as much rigidity as I can. As you cut, the side walls of the workpiece contribute to the support - at least that's my theory, and it seems to work in practice.
