Hello all, This is a pretty neat compact belt sander... Figured I'd post some Pic's, Then down the road turn this thread into modification posts for it. Although its hard to tell on grizzly's site - its pretty compact, I put a soda can for reference in the second photo.

The only things that need to be addressed ASAP are the tracking hinge, table & platen, after which the potential for upgrades is wide open. I cant wait to start Modding it. There are a couple sites that have bolt on upgrades for it - but where is the fun in that.. ?

I expect I'll have plenty of uses for this little machine in the near future - Thanks for looking, Mike.

This is an interesting machine, especially for the current sale price of $269.00. I normally shy away from Grizzly products in that most need at least some modifications for them to work properly. I would much rather have a plug and play machine when purchasing something brand new. It sounds like this machine does need a few modifications, but for the price it might be worth the time and effort.

I looked at similar grinders a few years ago and ended up with an older version of the Kalamazoo SM1 belt sander. It's pretty simplistic, and not nearly as versatile as the Grizzly. In this case, it was considerably less expensive, and only needed a couple minor touchups to put it in service.

If money were no object, I'd opt for one of these in a heartbeat. But at nearly $3900.00 for the top-of-the-line model it would be hard to justify.

Are all those handles plastic??

Yeah, I find Grizzly hit or miss on quality, but that sander looks pretty decent for the price.

Agreed!
Very sharp looking piece of equipment!

Not sure where it was posted, but I just saw a YouTube video on the upgrades for this. Might be good idea to link it.

I would but I've slept since then I don't recall .

The quick release adjustment handles are plastic.

A few years ago a little bit bigger one of these grizzly type sanders were 3+ grand, like you I couldn't justify the price... Then last week this little sander pops up out of nowhere for $269.00 on sale, so I bought it.

These are very handy tools. I have a Kalamazoo 2" belt sander, and I'm always surprised and pleased about the rate of material removal, how square it operates, and how easy to follow a curving scribe line.

Did you remake your table or platen...? Photos..?
I purchased the platen, platen mounts, tool rest and arms from Contender. Have limited fabrication abilities in my little shop and the prefabricated parts were very reasonably priced so just went that route.

On the project list is a ceramic plate waiting to get glued onto the new platen.
