Just wanted to post some information regarding the G0768 electronic lead screw from clough42. I don't think I've seen many people install this electronic lead screw but I just wanted to show that its possible to do it and also make it nice (hiding the servo that drives the lead screw) and being able to put the cover back on over the gears.

this project requires removing all the timing gears and replacing everything with belts. This is not really a post on how I did it. Its more of a post of the parts needed to do it so you can save time trying to figure out what to buy.

And lastly the 3d printed parts. One for the encoder, another for the electronics. I thought I'd also include the housing for the slide in case you want to convert the lathe to full CNC while retaining manual capabilities.

Congratulations on your ELS. Nice job.

For your future reference, there's a search function at the top right of the webpage. If you type in clough42 you will see more than a dozen threads on electronic lead screws. Check it out.

Several of us have designed our own, independent of James Clough's excellent work. Having an ELS is really nice. Enjoy yours.

I designed mine from scratch because the required TI controller boards were unavailable for over a year. So I had to write my own code. Since mine works ok, can't see a reason to retrofit it. I used a touch panel display to control and view the settings, there are no physical button switches. Other folks have used a bluetooth connection to their phone to do the control. Lots of ways to solve the interface problem.

This post is not specifically targeted to any particular ELS but clough42 does provide an easy path. I just discovered ELS and clough42 solution about 2 months ago and started my conversion. I was not able to find any real information anywhere about what I would need to convert my particular lathe and I wasted $$ buying various size belts and pulleys.

I can tell you the search function here does not give me the information I desire. So for those with a G0768 you now have my parts list and have a very solid foundation to convert yours. For me I just need this lathe working so I can actually make my parts. I don't want to spend time tinkering with the lathe.

Anyway for those with a G0768 heres your parts list, the STL for mounting the encoder and TI controller. use whatever software you want, but atleast you now have everything you need to get the physical parts installed.

What was you cost in parts for this?
