Flights to China

Ever since COVID it has been expensive and a bit questionable to travel to China.
yeah, the US cancelled flights from China and China retaliated by canceling flights from the US, so I think there was one direct flight per week or something crazy like that. We have been taking the flight out of Newark since it started somewhere around 2008 I think, but it hasn't flown in the last few years and just started up again. I won't be going on this trip, I need to stay home to take care of my daughter, so my wife will fit right in and hopefully not have any problems there. I'm the one that sticks out like a sore thumb and gets starred at all the time lol.

That is the most expensive trip to Harbor Freight Tools I've ever seen! Even with overweight bags on the return trip it might be cheaper to just subrscribe to their Inside Track Club instead.

I was there once working on a rig design with a Ship Yard and was walking to a store around the corner from the hotel. This scooter whizzed past me made a U-Turn and came back and stopped 50 ft in front of me. Little old lady gets off the scooter walks up to me (I had stopped out of caution) pats me on the shoulder and says "HHEELLLLOOWW". I says, in my best Texas accent "Howdy" she smiled and I asked "Do you understand English?" and she says "NNNNooooooo", pats me on the shoulder smiling gets back on her scooter and takes off.... Yep, nothing stands out in China like a 6'-0" 200Lbs red headed Texan with full facial hair. On a brighter note, it seemed at that moment that foreign policy advanced favorably....

I can completely understand that experience! My first trip to China was in 2002 to meet my inlaws, my wife and I got married that summer and had our “second” wedding in October to meet the family. Well, I’m 5’-6” blonde hair, blue eyes, they live on the outskirts of Shanghai where most of the people there probably never saw a white guy before, and certainly not in that area. I was walking on the sidewalk with my wife, a guy rides by on his bike and turns completely around to stare at me, I couldn’t believe he didn’t crash lol. The rest of the trip was the same thing, except in the downtown region where they are used to foreigners.

I had some fun times over there, but I am just as happy when my wife goes on her own, I have no patience for the pushy people in the cities and can’t wait to come home after a couple weeks.

I totally understand, they have no concept of personal space. Standing in line at the airport in Shanghai attempting to maintain a little personal space and 3 generations of family squeeze in between me and the next guy.

I hope your wife has a safe trip...

Thank you, my wife used to travel every other week for business before covid, but hasn’t been away once since then. I’ll need to remember how to do everything while she is gone lol.
