First attempt of broaching with a hobby milling machine

That’s a lot of cranking! Do people really do that?
When they need to cut a keyway and don't have a broach. Your left arm has to get some exercise somewhere.

I've done it on my lathe, but that's not pretty either. Scary hard on the carriage feed pinion.
 
Today I grinded off the tip of the tool a bit to reduce the rake angle to a very small positive value as advised in some of the replies and WA LA !!! It makes a day and night difference ! not only the tool cuts in every stroke now, the force needed is very consistent and significantly less because the tool does not dig into the metal deeper than intended anymore. With the aid of a little oil, the cutting action is now super smooth and there is no more wavy surfaces ! A million thanks to you guys ! I would not have made it without your help.

For further learning, or those just generally interested, Stefan has an excellent video where he goes through all the rake and clearance angles.


He's using a hobby benchtop mill too!
