File storage

A knifemaker friend of mine built a block similar to what kitchen knives are stored in, sorry no picture.

I use manila folders to make sheathes for my files. Cut and fold then tape them. Last forever. They come off easily and go back on easily. This way they are completely protected in my tool box drawers.

re File handles: For years, I have been using old plastic scrwdriver handles, driving the blade out and heating the file tang a little before driving on the handle. Quickly done it doesn't soften the business end of the file. . .

On storage: I have small "warding" files up to 16" hoof rasps. There is no one storage system to handle everything. The only things "protected" with rust inhibitor are the "like new" ones that are stored in a metal drawer. In use files fit the rolled lip of wire shelving. A block of 2X4 holds the warding files. Ad infinitum, ad nauseum. . .

I 3d printed a fan shaped holder for all of mine; super happy with it. Multiple layers for the lengths, different shaped holes for types.

I hung an appropriate file/s at each work station so they are readily at hand and I don't have to walk across the shop to get them. The rest are in their original sheath or a DIY scabbard of some type in a drawer.
