has anyone found any uses for ferrite metal shapes? since it is very hard and sometimes brittle has anyone machined it at all. I have a paint can full of them.---so far I have only used some for thick spacers. they seem too nice just to put them in the scrap metal can. the largest ones I have, came from an old tube tv.

Ferrite is actually a ceramic metal or cer-met- not machinable with ordinary tooling. Can be ground, very brittle as you noticed
Often used as radio frequency suppressors and cores for high frequency transformers

thanks Mark,
I was just wondering if someone had found other uses for them. can they be welded or brased ?

Not that I know of- can be glued tho- with epoxy or superglue
What shapes do you have? Are they the curved ones from the neck of a picture tube?

yes I have some of those plus ring ones of different sizes and some from transformers maybe some small round and square ones. I just couldn't throw them without knowing of good uses for them.

Magnets?

I have plenty of use for magnets around the shop.

If they are from the neck of an old TV picture tube, they are probably magnets for correcting the electron beam.
